The 1999 film adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ 1993 book “The Virgin Suicides” was helmed by Sofia Coppola. The Lisbon sisters are Therese, Mary, Bonnie, Lux, and Cecilia, and the story takes place in a suburban Michigan community in the 1970s.

A group of neighbourhood boys who at first found the sisters fascinating later became concerned as they began to behave strangely and isolate themselves from the outside world.

The book includes discussions on adolescence, families, conformity, and the results of repressing one’s wants. It has received acclaim for its original storytelling style and examination of the intricate inner lives of its characters. The movie adaptation, which starred Kirsten Dunst, Josh Hartnett, and James Woods, got positive reviews as well and has since gained notoriety.
